Can the iPod touch be used as an ereader, and can I torrent books?

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

You can use programs like stanza to read books on your iPod Touch. Stanza is also good for CBR (comic book files) though the small iPod screen limits the practicality of that.

Pandigital Novel or B&N Nook?

Friday, August 13th, 2010

I just bought the Pandigital Novel today. However, I’m not sure if I would have rather gotten the Nook.
I love the color touchscreen of it. The wifi doesn’t stay connected, it tends to lag, and the touch screen tends to be off.
I like the idea of the nook’s small touch screen, however I’d heard the keyboard is iffy.

I can still switch, price is not a problem. Would the switch be worth it?

Personal opinions…which ereader do you prefer?
Do you have these issues with the Pandigital?
What issues do you have with the Nook?
I think I will switch to the Nook…thanks Sami!

I own a nook and I find it to be far superior to the Pandigital. It’s just nicer, simpler, and easier to use. The only problem I have with the nook is the small lag when I’m messing around with stuff (not so much when I’m just reading, though), and the book selection is not quite as broad as I would like. But other than that, I absolutely LOVE it.

Which eReader flawlessly handles PDF, iPub and google books formats?

Monday, August 9th, 2010

Preferences for larger screen, no touch (worse resolution/glare), 16 grey shades.

I’ll say the latest generation of Amazon Kindle DX. See the section "Files Kindle Recognizes" on what file format it can support:

And see here on the performance of the Kindle DX on handling PDF files:

eReader Question? Nook, Kindle, or Sony?

Friday, August 6th, 2010

It seems like these are the main ones that everyone knows
I am mostly going with either the Nook or the Kindle because they both have wi-fi and the sony doesn’t
At first I wanted a touch screen, but I don’t really know which is best for an eReader. I just think it would be better.
Which one would you get?
Any Reviews or anything would be helpful
I have been researching for quite sometime now, but i am still unsure
Thanks
=D

It is always the best to read some actual user opinions. There are some very good actual user opinions here, for someone who has tried the Sony Reader, the Nook and the Kindle, you should get a much better idea after reading.

Sony Reader vs Kindle:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FRXW89I2WI0QMK%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref_%3Dcm%5Fcr%5Frdp%5Fperm&tag=querystr-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

Nook vs Kindle:

And in case you don’t know, Barnes & Noble reported a loss last quarter, while Amazon has a keep on increasing profit every year. It is clear that Amazon is much more stable financially. If, by chance, Barnes & Noble goes into any problem, there may no longer be support for the Nook. This is also one of the reasons why I choose the Kindle over the Nook.

Hope these help you decide.

I know you’re tired of this question but Kindle vs. Nook?

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

I used to use my iPod Touch as an ereader with the Stanza app but my iPod is no longer able to recognize my computer through WiFi for whatever reason. Besides this I would also like to read off of a bigger screen. Because of this I know have almost a hundred books in various formats and need an ereader. Im using calibre library to organize my books. Ignoring the fact that Kindle has more book options that are cheaper, which is better? Since I already have so many books right now (and very little time to read them) I wont need to buy any more to a long long time. I just want to know which ereader itself is better

I’ve given a detailed comparison between the Kindle vs the Nook, in another answer here. Guess it’ll help you decide which one to get:

Does anyone know if on Amazon, can you only download eBooks to a Kindle or can you down load to any eReader?

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

I have a Sony eReader Touch. It’s brand new and I can’t find anything on Amazon that says you can download eBooks to anything other than a Kindle, which is their version of an eReader. Do you know if that is the only eReader you can down load onto from there because I would like to order from them because their books are a little cheaper than B&N and Borders. Thanks for your help…

I’m sorry, but Kindle books can only be read by the devices listed on the top of this page:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fhelp%2Fcustomer%2Fdisplay.html%3Fie%3DUTF8%26nodeId%3D200127470%26ref_%3Dhp%5Fnavbox%5Fkspot%5Fksupp&tag=elec-m-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

I’ve also compared the most popular ebook readers right now in the market, in a previous answer here:

I want an Ereader… Which should i get the Kindle 2 or the Sony Daily Edition?

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

I am getting it for traveling and just around the house reading. Amazon seems like it has more of a collection of books for the kindle, but the sony seems like it has better features…the sd card touch screen etc…just wanted to know what everyone thought

Either one would be great. I have the Kindle 2 and love carrying 500+ books around in my bag. I think you should get your hands on both and decide which one feels better to you. Personally I don’t like touch screen. I have an iTouch and am always cleaning the screen of fingerprints and worrying about scratches. I do know that the Kindle is extremely sturdy. I have dropped mine so many times that the buttons have popped off, and I put them back, and the thing works. The price is dropping, too. I like the *look* of the Sony and the B&N Nook, but for functionality, I prefer the Kindle. When this one dies, I will buy another.

The features are the same with both, so it comes down to which you like to use better.

Sony ereader to read Kindle edition books?

Monday, July 26th, 2010

I own a Sony touch edition ereader, and I Love it. I was wondering if I downloaded the kindle app for my computer if I could then take the file and read it on my ereader. Anyone know if that’s possible?

Sorry, but all ebook readers (including the Kindle) protect their own ebooks by DRM, so they cannot be read by other ebooks readers.

But there are millions of free books here. Other than those ebooks in Kindle format, other books should work on the Sony Reader as well:

And I’ve given more of my opinions about different ebook readers, in a previous answer here:
