How do you get eBooks for different eReader platforms onto the iPhone 4?

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

I’ve downloaded Kindle and Nook apps for the iPhone 4, and no directions on how to get the eBooks onto the iPhone itself.

iPhone 4 just work like the iPad when talking about ebooks. I’ve mentioned quite a lot about reading on iPhone / iPad, in a previous answer here:

Are the books free to download on your ereader?

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

I need to know if the books are free to download onto your ereader or do you have to pay for them, because I just got one and I’m not sure. Please help!
Thanks for the help!

Books out of copyright (before 1923) are free. Books that the author gives permission for the book to be free (very seldom happens). Otherwise you must buy their ebook. It is usually cheaper than the hardcover.

What ereader is better, the Nook or the Kindle?

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

I’m a 16 year old boy, I take an IB english class at high school, and I enjoy reading. I would buy the simple wifi version of either one, but I would really like to know which ereader is better? The nook or Kindle?

Amazon just released a new Kindle and it is much better. I’ve given a detailed comparison between the Nook and the new Kindle, in another answer here (I’ve also mentioned where to get free books in the answer). Guess you’ll find interested:

And if you’re getting the Kindle, my advice for you is to place the order as soon as possible so to ensure it arrives to you early. The first batch has just sold out and the second batch now deliver on or before 17th Sept. When the second batch get out of stock, it may take another month for it to be back in stock, and you’ll have to wait much longer.

Hope it helps :)

Can the Pandigital Colour eReader play Audio Books?

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

I see that it can retain MP3 format for audio in general. Does this mean I could download an audio book to my computer and then to the eReader as one would for an MP3 Player and iPod?
If so, does that mean I can directly purchase or download an Audio Book on the eReader?

Thanks :)

Not sure if it helps, but would you consider to get the Amazon Kindle instead? It has the text-to-speech function, which means it can read books to you aloud like audio books. You can get audio books on the Kindle as well.

BTW, Amazon just announced new models of the Kindle reader. I’ve mentioned quite a lot about the new Kindle, which model to choose, and also where to get millions of free books, in another answer here:

I use the Barnes and Noble eReader for the iPad, I would like to highlight a line or partial text on a page?

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

I use the Barnes and Noble eReader for the iPad, I would like to highlight a line or partial text on a page so I could come back and work on that again since I use it for workbooks, anyone could help on how I do that?
Thanks.

It’s very simple, just hold your finger for 1/2 second on the word that you want to start highlighting on. Then just use your finger like a highlighter. Drag your finger to where you want your highlight to stop and you are good to go.

What is the best eReader to use when you have pdf. and other format books that you download from the net?

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

I have a lot of books that I have downloaded from all over the net and would like an actual eReader user to help…not that other knowledgeable and opinionated persons advise will not be considered =) OH and I want one that will work without using an external light source (that phrasing sounds awkward…I mean I don’t have to turn on a bulb to use it or only good in sunlight)

EReaders do not have backlight. It is different from backlight comptuer screen, which will hurt our eyes if we on it for long. Ebook readers use eInk screen, and it simulate reading experience on books. Read this short article to know more:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Ftagging%2Ftag%2Fkindle%2Fforum%3Fie%3DUTF8%26cdForum%3DFx1D7SY3BVSESG%26ref_%3Dcm%5Fcd%5Fef%5Ftft%5Ftp%26cdThread%3DTx164P1YL79AI6U&tag=elec-m-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

For the new Kindle 3, there is a cover for the new Kindle, which has a light built-in:

The Kindle can handle PDF files very well. See the section "Files Kindle Recognizes" on the official page here for what file formats the Kindle can support:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fhelp%2Fcustomer%2Fdisplay.html%3Fie%3DUTF8%26nodeId%3D200505520%26ref_%3Dhp%5Fk3land%5Ftrans&tag=elec-m-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

And guess you know, Amazon just announced new models of the Kindle reader (mine is Kindle 2, and now it upgrades to the Kindle 3 and sold at the same price). I’ve mentioned quite a lot about the new Kindle, which model to choose, and where to get free books, in another answer here:

Kobo eReader keeps it simple

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

Feature bloat is the bane of the less technical technophile. The Kobo eBook reader does not fall victim. It’s a single-purpose device and it’s easy to use, easy to hold, easy to afford and easy to like. @ butterscotch.com: http://bit.ly/cOr1xN

Is the Pandigital Novel 7" Color Multimedia eReader just as good as the Ipad and Kindle?

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

i saw this Pandigital Novel 7" MultiMedia eReader in Bed Bath & Beyond and it looks just like the iPad. Just wondering if its the same thing, the only difference is its not made by Apple.

It is not popular and it’ll not be easy to find books for the Pandigital Novel eReader. It is not as mature as the Kindle from Amazon as well, which has undergone 3 generations.

BTW, Amazon just released a new Kindle and it is much better. I’ve given a detailed comparison between the most popular ebook readers and the new Kindle, in another answer here (I’ve also mentioned where to get free books in the answer). Guess you’ll find interested:

The new Kindle has a cover that has built-in light, which helps when reading in the dark:

Is it okay to use a Kobo eReader on international flights?

Friday, August 13th, 2010

I have a Kobo reader. The OFFsetting still leaves something on the screen. I understand that this is just the way it works. However, I was wondering whether it would be okay to take into the cabin of an international flight in that Kobo’s OFF is not completely OFF, and you are often asked to turn off electronic devices when the plane is landing or taking off.

This is ok. If it has a transmit function (for instance, eReaders like the Kindle have wifi capability to download eBooks), that must be turned off. However, it’s ok if it’s just "asleep" or in a low power state and not completely off. Just don’t use it during ascent/descent and you won’t have a problem.
