Do you like the Kindle 2 or will the Nook be BETTER?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

I am looking at an ereader for Christmas. The Kindle 2 sounds amazing… but the Barns&Noble, Nook, is catching my eyes! Which one do you think will be better and WHY????

I’ve looked into comparison between the Nook and the Kindle, so I’ll tell more of my comments.

From the official page of B&N, here is how the Nook compares with the Kindle:

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/nook/compare/

Since Barnes and Noble page is only mentioning the advantage of the Nook over the Kindle, let me try to tell more about the benefit of the Kindle 2 over the Nook:

- There is no internet browser for the Nook. So even with Wi-Fi, you can only use it to purchase book. You cannot do searching in Google, Wikipedia, check email, etc., like what you can do with the Kindle.

- The Amazon Kindle has international free 3G wireless which covers over 100 countries. So even if you’re in places like the UK or Australia, you can access the internet with the Kindle free of charge. The Nook has wireless only within the U.S., and is limited for use of buying books only

- The Kindle is available outside the U.S. (it ships to 176 countries), while the Nook only ship within the U.S. at this moment.

- The Kindle has text-to-speech function, so it can treat an ebook like audio book. This function is not present on the Nook.

- Amazon is already doing some change after the Nook is announced (still more than one month for it to be available). They dropped the price of their International Kindle even further. And they are going to release a PC software which can read their Kindle books.

One more thing to be aware is that, at first glance you may think the Nook can read ebooks with color touch screen. But indeed the color touch screen is only a small screen beneath the greyscale eink screen, and seems it is only used to browse the cover of ebooks.

In my opinion, it is a tie between the Kindle and the Barnes and Noble. But since you travel every summer, you should go for the Kindle for sure for the free internet access outside the United States. Moreover, I trust the Kindle will come up with some strategies very soon, like improving their lending book function. The Kindle is the biggest player in the ereader market right now, and I believe it will put enormous effort to hold its position.

I recommend this article as well, it is the best review on ebook readers I’ve ever read:

Hope this information helps.

Archos 5 Internet Tablet w/ Android Review Pt 1 (Introduction)

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

www.techreviewonline.co.uk video review. Please join our forums

$299 16gb version, I purchased a 8gb Micro sdhc card to increase the storage capability. Please ask me if you want me to Review a particular android app/game that you want to see on the Archos 5 internet media tablet especially to see if it works well with it and I will see what I can do! :D

I review the Archos 5 Internet media tablet with Android that only came out a few months ago. I look at the hardware of this fantastic device and give you an introduction to it. Please watch Part 2 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLdaIxuOnmk

The Archos 5 Internet Media Tablet with the Android software is a wonderful combination of a personal media player and miniature computer! It is literally like a netbook and has advanced capabilities beyond that of your typical media players. It is a lot bigger than the Zune HD and ipod touch 3g with a gorgeous 4.8′
screen. The SSID flash versions that come in 8, 16, 32gb are thin and lightweight. The hard drive models that start at 160gb and go up to 500gigs are a bit thicker obviously

The A5 it is quite simply one of the best devices I have ever owned if not, THE best. It is not without it’s faults but it is really an amazing device.
For Tech specs, go here: http://www.archos.com/products/imt/archos_5it/specs.html?country=us&lang=en

The touch screen is not as touch responsive as the ipod touch or Zune HD with it’s OLED screen but it’s still
easy to use. You need to apply a bit of extra pressure with your fingers and thumbs because of the layers of
the screen. It’s not a huge deal and you will get used to it in no time. You MUST calibrate the screen by going into settings as soon as you set it up or you might find yourself being frustrated with you not touching the keyboard letters/numbers/games/apps correctly. Calibrating is essential. The screen although not as sharp as the Zune HD, is still a delight and very enjoyable because of it’s sheer size. Watching a music video or a video podcast or your own personal media is a lot of fun with the A5 it! I would give the A5 it the slight edge over the ipod touch 3g despite it’s better black level on video and the Zune HD despite it’s OLED glass screen.

The Google marketplace apps work for the most part really well on the A5 it but some didn’t work at all but
the majority so far did for me. A lot of the apps in the marketplace and the offical AppsLib Archos app store
are FREE!

I highly recommend this device, it’s lightweight, portable, has a beautiful large touch screen, has fast web
browsing, can watch youtube, you can use google voice, google talk, skype and thousands of other apps on it.
It comes with the Android OS and is one of the most amazing devices I have ever owned. For me the competition is between the Zune HD, ipod touch 3g and Archos 5 internet media tablet w/ Android. If you are into phones, I would also add the Motorola Droid in there too. The A5 is not perfect (what device isn’t), has some bugs but overall is well worth the purchase! BUY IT!!

Kodak Zi8 HD pocket camcorder.
